#petbirds is back on AnotherNet! AnotherNet has changed quite a bit
in the past year and half. #petbirds left AnotherNet when it became a
fee only service and we could no longer use our favorite IRC client programs
to connect. AnotherNet is no longer a fee only service. There
are now two levels of membership.
Standard Membership
- No cost. It is free FREE
- 30 hours of chat time per month.
- Can create up to 3 channels but not register them.
- Can have up to 3 simultaneous logins but each login is charged
against the same 30 hour limit.
Premium Membership
- $30 a year (if paid anually)
- Unlimited access.
- Can create up to 3 channels and register them.
- Can have up to 3 simultaneous logins.
Shane and the other IRC Ops still strive to provide the safest and cleanest
family-oriented IRC service on the Net
Some more notes on AnotherNet:
- Chanserv, NickServ, and MemoServ are now built into the IRC server so
there will be no lag or netsplits that will cause denial of these
services. Albeit, the commands have changed a lot but are now
simpler to use.
- Folks can no longer connect to the IRC server on the fly. They must
first register for a free or paid account which would be set up within
a day or so.
- Your IP address is protected.
- Your email address will not be sold to spammers.
- Better control on trouble makers and mass advertisers.
- No more site bans.
- You can use mIRC, PIRCH, or any ircII compatible clients. The Kitten
client program is gone.
If you are interested in coming back to AnotherNet, (or want to join for the
first time), visit
http://www.another.net/. You will need
to sign up for a standard or premium IRC account. Then download and
install an IRC client (i.e. MS Windows:
mIRC,
PIRCH; Macintosh:
ircle).
Also, #petbirds now has its own newsgroup
anothernet.chat.channels.petbirds
on news.another.org. And, we would like to restart our regular Monday
night meetings from 8pm to 10pm Central time. If there is enough interest
we well even attempt to have occassional guest speakers. In the past we
have had folks from from Oxyfreeh, Lafebers, book authors, and more.
